Green / Light
This is commissioned by Jim Jam Arts as part of Folkestone Living Advent Calendar, December, 2019.
This immersive dance performance is in collaboration with a Jyll Bradley and MCDC Dance Company. The sculpture is constructed on the site of the Old Gas Works in Folkestone. The sculpture’s aluminium poles, designed to catch and reflect the energy of light, occupy precisely the footprint of one of the gasometers, a memory of its cylinder. She created a space for others to consider the dualities in their own pasts and futures.
I created costumes in response to the sculpture and the theme, and plus four of my old costumes together for the ten performers to create an immersive live performance in the sculpture field. It tended to depict dancers from other dimensions arriving at Green/Light to celebrate their differences and represent their nations by gathering together, dancing and socialising at the ball-inspired party. Characters finding basic human interaction and connections between themselves and the audience. It's choreographed for the first 15mins and then performers led the audiences into the sculpture and dance with them for the rest of it. There were around 180 audiences.
